The Baby Blessing

Last Sunday (3/20) we had the privilege to have our baby boy blessed at church.  Brock blessed him with a full crowd of family (Great Grandpa Gray, Grandpa Van Wagenen, Grandpa Erickson, Uncle Jeff, Uncle Brian, Uncle Ben, and Uncle Jason).  It was a great day, and so fun to have all the family there for the event.  Usually you bless babies a little earlier on, but there's no age that they have to be blessed by.  The tuxedo is size 0-3 months, and our little boy is getting to be a big boy so we tried on the tux shirt on Saturday.  Imagine this ... Brock holding his arms above his head and me trying to pull it down over his head.  He of course did not like it, but we did get the shirt on.  He was so mad (as he should have been) that we were afraid to take off the shirt.  So, we called my Mom and drove over there to have her help us modify the outfit so that we could get it on without the tears.  She did a great job, and the only tears of the day were mine.

Of special note ... My sister Heather bought him a special blessing outfit ... and I think the only thing to say besides it's stinking cute, is that the outfit helped represent our family in Texas that couldn't make it.  Also, the blanket in the second picture was made by Great grandma Dorsey and finished by Grandma Van Wagenen for this special day.

Preston is saying "Mom it's time for a nap, please"

Preston is saying "MOM IT"S REALLY TIME FOR A NAP AND GET ME OUT OF THIS TUX"!

The two loves of my life, both handsome as ever.

Preston Turns 2 Months Old

Today is Preston's 2 month birthday!  I always wondered why we measured babies in months and everyone else in years, but as I see how much he grows and has changed even in a month, let alone 2, I understand.

We went to the doctor today and he is 14 pounds 2.5 oz and 25 inches long. He has gotten really good at smiling, making the cooing sounds, following objects, and grabbing things with his hands. His hair continues to grow long and is so cute!!  We're loving the faux-hawk hair style.

He's adorable and we're so glad he's growing big, healthy and strong.  Still working on sleeping in the early hours of the morning, but that will come eventually.

He goes on runs with him Mom in the jogging stroller and loves to be outside with her.

His stomach is super strong and as soon as he gets some coordination with the arms and legs, he'll be mobile.

He pumps his left leg and right arm when he's getting a frustrated, and it's stinkin' hilarious!  Just make sure you're not in the way because you'll get a good kick and a good punch!

We're lucky to live close to family and we get to have fun with them, and it's so fun to see how much they love him!  This weekend he'll be meeting more of his family, we're going to blessing him on Sunday.  I'm excited for them to meet our sweet baby boy, and for him to meet more of his family.

Happy St. Patrick's day, and Happy 2 month Birthday Baby Preston!

Sleeping Boot Camp

The blog has been neglected because we have been in sleep boot camp around here!  Some nights are brutal and others are fantastic.  Even though Preston is will be 8 weeks on Monday, he was showing signs that he would be able to handle some "cry it out" time.  It's been rough on Mom, but he's sleeping so much better (knock on wood) now.  It's been an adventure trying to get the right combination (i.e. The Miracle Blanket, Timing of naps during the day, Making his room darker, Gassy tummy remedies, Me blaming Brock for being too loud {that was the lack of sleep talking}, Changing sleeping outfits, Changing night time supplements, Timing of Baths etc...).  Seriously, it's been quite the adventure attempting to figure out this sleep puzzle for the little monkey.  For a while he was waking up every 45 mins from 2AM on.  That was wearing Mom slick!  However, since we've got the gas under control (most the time), done some "cry it out", and instituted a combination of other things, we're are on the up and up.  At the risk of jinxing myself, I'm proud to report that he only got up twice in the night for the passed 2 nights.

It's helped that he started smiling when I would smile at him.  That made my tired heart warm right up!  He's also started getting more chunky which just makes him that much more adorable to my sleepy eyes.  It also helps that he looks a lot like his Dad (With the exception of the chunky part)!  Hopefully with my new found sleep I will get more posted (as requested) of our special boy and how Preston is doing training his Mom.
